I'm not going to rate this book. I don't feel particularly comfortable with the concept of giving this type of memoir a score - in my view, it's neither appropriate, nor necessary.
The only way I can possibly even attempt to describe how I felt whilst reading Michelle Knight's account of her life thus far, is that it was like being trapped under a massive weight that I couldn't hope to lift; both very much crushing and suffocating.
Her story serves as a stark and harrowing reminder of the horrendous acts human beings are capable of - every day, and in the most innocuous of places.
Monsters do exist.
